Having a population of around 21 pupils per class, Mackellar was founded in 1991. It is located in Delahey which is on the outer western fringe of Melbourne. The school has many classrooms as well as an administration block for the staff. The institution provides a platform for learning for the children in Delahey.
For a long time the lock system that was used in Mackellar was the mechanical key system. This system was not without its challenges. The maintenance costs of locks in the school was becoming an uphill task. Carrying bunches of keys was not only cumbersome but also crude and archaic. Frequent key cutting whenever the number of people authorized to access certain areas increased was also a tiring and costly exercise. Some of the locks were also old and either not working properly or not working at all.
The JAB Locksmith Melbourne experts met with the administrators of Mackellar in an effort to provide a lasting solution that would curb the above mentioned problems. The JAB Locksmiths pointed out that the installation of the Salto full access locking system will put an end to the security lock challenges in the school. Both parties agreed on the offer and JAB Locksmiths started the work.
Soon all the door were fitted with full access wireless locks. Some of the access modes that were fitted include:
Toggle mode – the toggle mode would require the user to present a card when unlocking the door and present it once again when from the outside to lock it.
Standard – here the door will only require the card to open when the user is outside but it can be opened from the inside without a card.
Keypad – these are locks that required a pin to open. For places that required more security a combination of the pad and card system was installed.
Office mode (timed) – they can only be opened at scheduled times and days of the week.
Automatic Open – these are locks which are programmed to open automatically on their own at specified times.
Apart from keeping places secure these locks provide other advantages such as monitoring on-duty personnel movements. In case of a security breach the system has a lock-down option. The automatic updates feature of the system that was fitted made it easy to anyone who lost his/her card. Upon losing a card the system automatically cancels the use of the card without having to walk to each lock and doing it manually.
Located in Essendon, Melbourne, St Bernard’s is a Roman Catholic Independent boy’s college. It is a member of Associated Catholic Colleges. Classes in this campus officially started in 1963. Edmund Rice was the founder of St Bernard’s College as well as the Christian Brother schools. The institution is known for its astounding prowess is performing arts.
After a meeting between the St Bernard’s administration personnel and JAB Locksmiths Melbourne experts, the school expressed its dissatisfaction in the master key lock systems. Their locking system had been in use for quite some time and as much as it was functional, the administration believed that it was not the best. Since copies of this key could be made, there was a risk of access by unauthorized persons in to the institution’s premises. Apart from that, the constant replacement of lost keys was a both tiring and costly to the school. The need for a better locking system was obvious. Luckily, we had a solution to their predicaments.
JAB Locksmiths Melbourne offered to replace the master key system of this school with an open access locking system. The best part was that new locks could be placed without having to replace the old locks. That gave the users the option to use the new locks without having to get rid of the old ones.
Being a wireless system, installing the Salto system was both easy and fast. There was no need to demolish and reconstruct any part of the walls to put electric cables. The PC based Salto wireless system worked like magic. The wire- free environment was what St Bernard’s needed to curb all the challenges that are mentioned above.Once everyone was keyed into the system access to the places that the individual was authorized to enter became a piece of cake.
The hustle of having to carry keys around for the purpose of accessing places in St Bernard’s is a thing of the past. The date, time and places that different people could access could now be easily fed into the system for convenience purposes. The intelligent locking system was quickly adopted and integrated into the system with a remarkable performance.
All the doors that needed to be fitted with these locks were fed into the system and hooked-up with the latest state-of-the-art lock systems. This was easy because the system can accommodate numerous doors comfortably.
Whitefriars College Donvale is a Roman Catholic Independent college for boys that was established in 1961. It has been a member Associated Catholic church since the year 1999. It is the only Carmelite college in Australia. It has eight houses all named after a Carmelite of note. The college started with a notebook-computer program and later advanced to a notebook-tablet system.
Between delays, inefficiencies and unnecessary costs, the master key system in Whitefriars was doing more harm than good. Those were the sentiments of the institution’s management in a meeting with JAB Locksmiths. The master key system was not a complete failure, but it was not very efficient either. The school needed a better lock system that could not only be more efficient but also affordable. They expressed their dissatisfaction with the master key system that was in place at the time and asked if they could get a better system.
The JAB Locksmiths experts offered to install Salto wireless access control system that will solve the challenges faced by Whitefriars College. Some of the products that were available at the time included: XS4 WRM Pedestal, keypad, antivandalic frame for wall readers, mounting bases for modular wall readers, and software SPACE among many more.
The technology that was installed could not only read cards, but also scan smart phones. This easily solved the problem of losing cards or keys in the master key system. The programming involved in the open access system gives huge room for diversity as far as locks are concerned. Accessing a given area can not only be limited to certain persons, but also the time and date. It is an intelligent lock system which offers superb security.
Once a user list is keyed into this system it determines the people who are authorized to access given areas at specific times. This information could be important in determining the people who accessed a given place at a certain time. The maintenance costs of this system are very low since there is no risk of key loss. Changes and privileges can be effected by the administrator at any time. The inbuilt radio frequency is what connects the lock to the administrative PC. This exchange occurs in real time. The data that is transmitted between the gateways and the escutcheon is always secure and private. This system can also be linked to cameras and even alarms. The system is battery powered and alerts the user before the batteries are dead.
